    Lasell’s freshman setter Brendan McGourn (Southington, Conn.) was selected as the GNAC Rookie of the Year and to the first team All-Conference for men’s volleyball, and senior outside David Rogers (Belchertown, Mass.) joins him on the second team All-GNAC.
  • Lasers Dominate Mustangs in GNAC Matchup

    Newton, Mass.- Lasell College dominated the Mustangs of Mount Ida College in a three set sweep in GNAC men’s volleyball action on Tuesday night. The Lasers were led by the play of Dustin and Trevor Foster (Ashford, Conn.) who each put down seven kills. Dustin hit with no errors for an impressive .778 clip, while Trevor added six blocks over the course of the evening.

    Lasell’s men’s volleyball team was awarded both the Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference for the week ending March 16th. Lasell’s senior libero and captain, Joseph Lipski (Burlington, Conn.) was selected as the Player of the Week while freshman setter Brendan McGourn (Southington, Conn.) was chosen as the Rookie of the Week.

  • Lasell Defeats New Haven for Second Time in Six Days

    Newton, Mass.- Dave Rogers (Belchertown, Mass.) put down a game-best 15 kills for the Lasell College men’s volleyball team in a 3-1 win over University of New Haven tonight in the Lasell Athletic Center. This is the third time this season that the Lasers and the Chargers have met, and the second time that Lasell has come out on top.

    Lasell dropped in three games to the top ranked Raiders of Rivier College on Thursday evening, 30-18, 30-22, 30-22. The Lasers are now 14-8 on the season and 7-3 in the GNAC.

    For the second time this season, the Lasers overcame the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College with a 3-0 sweep in GNAC men’s volleyball action. Lasell took the victory easily by scores of 30-12, 30-7, and 30-8 over the first year program, advancing their record to 14-7.
  • Rogers, Smith, & Williams Notch Weekly Awards

    Three Lasers were selected to receive GNAC weekly awards this week. Once again, Javon Williams (Mattapan, Mass.) was honored as Rookie of the Week for men’s basketball, while Dave Rogers (Belchertown, Mass.) was chosen as Player of the Week in Men’s Volleyball, and Zack Smith (Agawam, Mass.) was men’s volleyball Rookie of the Week. Both Rogers and Smith are being honored for the first time by the GNAC this season.
  • Men's Volleyball Takes Home Bard Invitational Championship Title

    Lasell College men’s volleyball team took home the Bard College Invitational Championship this weekend, beating three teams to make their way to the title. Dave Rogers (Belchertown, Mass.) was selected Most Outstanding Player at the tournament after averaging 2.89 kills per set, and 2.77 digs per set while hitting 35%. Zack Smith (Agawam, Mass.) and Dustin Foster (Ashford, Conn.) were each chosen as representatives on the All-Tournament team along with Rogers for their efforts in the 3-0 weekend.
  • Lasers Make Quick Work of Falcons

    Newton, MA- Lasell College got a quick 3-0 victory over the Falcons of Albertus Magnus in GNAC men’s volleyball action tonight on their home court. The Lasers got off to a fast start with a 30-6 set, followed by a 30-10 second set. In the third set, the Falcons kept themselves in the game a little bit longer but Lasell was too powerful and finished the match 30-17.

    The Lasers of Lasell College took down the Mustangs of Mount Ida College on Tuesday evening in GNAC men’s volleyball action. In just three quick sets, the Lasers improved their overall match record to 8-6, beating the Mustangs by scores of 30-19, 30-12, 30-19.
  • McGourn Repeats as GNAC Rookie of the Week

    A 6’1” freshman from Southington, Connecticut, McGourn earned his honor by averaging 10 assists, 1.87 kills, 1.14 digs, and .57 blocks in 14 sets over the course of the week. In a spectacular performance against Wentworth Institute of Technology, McGourn put up 50 assists, slammed down 11 kills and added four digs. Throughout the week McGourn assisted on 140 kills and put down 20 kills of his own.

    Lasell improved their record to 7-6 overall (3-2 GNAC) after Monday night’s men’s volleyball match versus the Eagles of Daniel Webster College. The Lasers flew away with a 3 set victory by scores of 30-16, 30-23, 30-21. The Eagles now drop to 3-4, and 3-3 in NECVA New England play.

    Chicopee, MA- The Blazers of Elms College cruised to a 2-0 sweep of Wentworth Institute of Technology and Lasell College on Saturday at the Maguire Center in a NECVA men’s volleyball tri-match. The Leopards split the day, winning their match with Lasell in a hard fought five set match; 32-30, 29-31, 30-24, 18-30, 17-15. Lasell finished the day with at and even 6-6 mark, remaining 3-2 in NECVA GNAC.

    The Lasell College men’s volleyball team hosted their first tri-match of the 2009 season with the Lynx of Lesley University and the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College. The Lasers won on both ends, sweeping both teams 3-0. The Chargers split the day, taking home their second win of the season in the second match of the day, beating the Lynx, 3-0.

  • Emmanuel Men’s Volleyball Outlasts Lasell, 3-1

    Newton, Mass.- The Saints of Emmanuel College took the Lasers three sets to one in tonight’s men’s volleyball matchup. After two close sets that the Saints came away with 30-28 and 30-26, Lasell took over the third set for a 30-28 win. The Lasers looked to take control of the fourth set early on, but the Saints pushed for a match victory, closing the set 30-24.

    Newbury College senior outside hitter Bryan McDermand (Palatine, IL) put down a match-high 15 kills and 5 service aces en route to a 3-0 triumph over the Lasell College men’s volleyball team. Though the Lasers were paced by senior outside Dave Rogers (Belchertown, Mass.), who knocked down 9 kills, and sophomore middle Mike Harrington (Billerica, Mass.) who hit a .417 clip, the Nighthawks flew away with the match in three sets; 30-24, 30-17, and 30-20.
  • Men’s Volleyball Sweeps JWU in 1st GNAC Contest

    Brendan McGourn (Southington, Conn.) established himself as a total player this afternoon as he hit a .500 clip, putting down 6 kills, while also dishing out 30 assists and digging 10 balls on defense as Lasell College men’s volleyball swept Johnson & Wales University; 30-28, 20-22, 30-26. The freshman setter ran a balanced attack on offense, with four hitters producing six plus kills in the three set match.
  • LASERS OPEN SEASON WITH 3-1 WIN OVER MIT

    Lasell College won their season opener against MIT, 3-1, in men’s volleyball action tonight. After dropping the first set, 22-30, the Lasers rebounded to take game two in extra points, at 37-35. The Lasers held onto that momentum in the third set, winning convincingly at 30-23, followed by a closer fourth, capping the match off with a 31-29 victory.

    The Lasell College men’s volleyball team comes into the 2009 season ranked 4th in the GNAC after coming off a 13-18 overall and 4-7 NECVA New England Division season in 2008. The Lasers have ten veteran athletes returning to the squad this season, who along with three new additions should be extremely competitive in the GNAC Division, and the NECVA conference.

    JERSEY CITY, NJ…Defending North East Collegiate Volleyball Association champion Vassar College has been voted the unanimous favorite to win the 2009 NECVA Championship, in the league’s preseason poll. The Brewers went 26-7 last year behind the leadership of NECVA and AVCA Division III National Coach of the Year Jonathan Penn and advanced to the national final before falling to Springfield. The Brewers, in their first year as a member of the conference in 2008, posted a perfect 21-0 record against NECVA affiliated schools. Vassar returns five starters and nine letterwinners, including NECVA Player of the Year and First-Team All-American Phil Tully and First-Team All-American John Kessenich
