Brendan McGourn (Southington, Conn.) established himself as a total player this afternoon as he hit a .500 clip, putting down 6 kills, while also dishing out 30 assists and digging 10 balls on defense as Lasell College men's volleyball swept Johnson & Wales University; 30-28, 20-22, 30-26. The freshman setter ran a balanced attack on offense, with four hitters producing six plus kills in the three set match.
Mike Harrington (Billerica, Mass.) came off the bench to put down 7 kills on twenty attempts. Harrington played consistently well throughout the match on the outside, also picking up 2 solo blocks and 2 block assists.
Dustin Foster (Ashford, Conn.), Dan Rogers (Belchertown, Mass.), and Trevor Foster (Ashford, Conn.) dominated the middle, putting down a combined 13 kills in the match. Dave Rogers (Belchertown, Mass.) had a team high 8 kills and also collected 5 defensive digs, and Matt Roberts (Agawam, Mass.) finished the match with 6 kills and a team best 11 digs.
Andy Cass (Wakefield, RI) and Joseph Lipski (Burlington, Conn.) were also strong defensively, with 9 and 5 digs respectively.
Sean Lauro and Peter Yanakiev kept the Wildcats alive with 9 total kills, receiving more than three quarters of the total team attempts. Steven Velez produced a JWU high 8 digs.
The Lasers (2-0) are back in action on Tuesday, January 27th, hosting Newbury College at 7:00 p.m. Newbury is currently 4-1 this season, and is ranked 11th in the AVCA national DIII men's volleyball poll, and were chosen no. 7 in the NECVA pre-season polls.
