Lasers Split with Emmanuel, Endicott

 

Boston, Mass.-  The Lasell men's volleyball team split a tri-match with Emmanuel College and Endicott College on Saturday, taking home a GNAC victory against the Saints, but dropping a non-conference match to the Gulls.

 

Dave Rogers (Belchertown, Mass.) had an incredible overall day for the Lasers with 23 total kills and only 3 hitting errors in the two matches.  He also added 12 digs and two blocks in the eight set day.  Also stepping up in the tri-match was freshman middle hitter Trevor Foster (Ashford, Conn.) who had a spectacular eight solo blocks, and one assisted block, against Emmanuel.  Foster also added 13 kills in the two matches.

 

The Lasers started the day with a five set match against the Saints of Emmanuel College.  Lasell fell in the first set, 30-28, before rebounding to take the next two games, 30-27, 30-22.  The fourth set was to Emmanuel's advantage in a convincing 30-17 win, but the final and deciding game was the Lasers, finishing with a 16-14 victory.

 

Dave Rogers had 14 kills in the match, hitting .522 throughout and also added 11 digs to give him a compelling double-double.  T. Foster matched 8 kills to his 8 solo blocks in the middle, while Dan Rogers (Belchertown, Mass.) put down 10 kills as Lasell's other middle hitter, adding three total blocks.

 

Freshman Zack Smith (Agawam, Mass.) and senior Gary Gay (Belchertown, Mass.) split time in the setter position creating 47 assists between them. Both Smith and Gay added six digs a piece.  Playing opposite Dave Rogers on the outside was sophomore Andy Cass (Wakefield, RI) who closed out with 13 kills and 6 digs in the Laser win.

 

After pushing their GNAC record to 5-2 this season, the Lasers faced the Gulls of Endicott College in non-conference competition, and lost in three; 30-25, 30-22, 30-18.  The Gulls record increased to 15-7 after beating both the Saints and the Lasers in minimum sets.

 

Dave Rogers once again was a strength at the net for Lasell, notching nine kills and hitting a .571.  T. Foster came away with 5 kills and two solo blocks and Smith distributed 17 assists and picked up seven digs.

 

Cass and Dan Rogers had 11 kills combined, with Cass adding four digs and Rogers dropping down two blocks unassisted.  Gary finished the Endicott match with 9 assists and five digs.

 

 

The Lasers finished the day with a 9-7 record (5-2 GNAC).  Their next competition is on Wednesday, February 25th at 7:00 p.m. when they face Albertus Magnus is GNAC play at home.
