• Kelly Awarded Third Team All-Conference Honors

    Lasell’s Shauna Kelly (Quincy, Mass.) was selected to the GNAC All-Conference Third Team for the 2008-2009 season. The senior co-captain was the Lasers’ leading scorer and rebounder this season, averaging 16.4 points per game and 6.6 rebounds. She also dished 48 assists and made 24 steals over the course of the year.

    STANDISH, ME – The Lasers game up short in their bid to make the playoffs losing to St. Joes 63-44 on Saturday. Lasell’s senior guard Katie Schumitz ‘09 (Milford, CT) scored a game-high 15 points off five three-pointers in the losing effort.
  • Lasers Fall in Overtime to Cadets

    After fifteen ties and sixteen lead changes, the Cadets of Norwich University took home a 64-58 win over the Lasell College women’s basketball team in overtime. The Lasers played incredibly tough while forcing their first overtime of the season, forcing the second place Cadets to come from behind to seal the victory. After their last home game of the season, the Lasers have a 4-7 GNAC record, and a 7-17 overall mark, and one regular season game left. Norwich stands tied with Emerson at 9-2 in the GNAC, and 16-6 overall.

    Boston, Mass- Emmanuel’s women’s basketball team downed the Lasers in a 76-54 GNAC victory on Saturday at the Jean Yawkey Center. The conference leading Saints are 16-8 overall and 9-1 in the GNAC, while the Lasers are 7-16 on the season and 4-6 in conference play, with one week left in the regular season.

    Newton, Mass.- The Lasers trailed to the Mount Ida Mustangs for the first thirty eight minutes of the GNAC contest before coming back to win, 64-60, in the final minutes of the game. Shauna Kelly (Quincy, Mass.) led all scorers with 19 points, but it was Katie Schumitz (Milford, Conn.) who nailed a three pointer with 1:19 on the clock to put the Lasers ahead for good.

    The Sharks of Simmons College were the victors in GNAC women’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon, taking a 66-45 win away from Lasell College. The Lasers finish the night at 6-15 and 3-5 in the GNAC, while the Sharks bump their records to 15-6 and 6-2 in the conference.

    Newton, Mass.- Rivier College took home a 92-54 win over Lasell College in women’s hoops tonight, on the back of junior guard Blair Carpenter (Meredith, NH) who drilled six trey’s, finishing with 27 total points for the visitors. The Raiders boast a 14-6 record, and are 6-2 in the GNAC coming off tonight’s victory. The Lasers fall to 6-14, with a 3-4 conference record.

    Newton, Mass.- Lasell’s comeback began just a bit too late against Suffolk University this afternoon as the Lasers women’s basketball team fell to the visiting Rams, 60-53. Katie Schumitz (Milford, Conn.) produced a game-best seventeen points, and also picked up four rebounds for Lasell in the defeat, as the Lasers fall to 6-13 overall, and 3-3 in conference play. Suffolk’s Meghan Tracey (Rehoboth, Mass.) lifted the Rams to 9-8, and 3-4 in the GNAC, with a 14 point and 14 rebound performance.

Hampton, Mass.) and Shauna Kelly (Quincy, Mass.) had 17 and 15 point performances in the second half to pave the way for Lasell’s third GNAC victory.

    Emerson College held just a three point advantage after the first half of play against Lasell College, but rallied in the second to take home an 83-68 win in women’s basketball action on Tuesday evening. Andrea Kosek (Latham, NY) and Lauren Zaniboni (San Diego, CA) each tallied fourteen points in the second half for the Lions who boost their record to 11-6, and 3-1 in the GNAC. The Lasers closed out the evening at 5-11 overall and 2-2 in the GNAC.

    WEST HARTFORD, CT – With the score tied 64-all and 3.9 seconds on the clock, Lasell’s senior guard Shauna Kelly (Quincy, Mass.) was sent to the free throw line, knocking down the front end of two to secure a 65-64 win over the Blue Jays of Saint Joseph’s College (Conn.). Kelly’s timely free throw was all that the Lasers’ needed to make away with their second GNAC victory of the season.

    In New Haven on Saturday afternoon the Albertus Magnus College Women’s Basketball Team trailed 43-37 at half time and as much as 15 in the second half but rallied to tie the game for the 17th time with just two minutes to play but couldn’t overcome Lasell College’s late push losing 79-72.

    Clarkson University took a narrow victory over the Lasell College Lasers’ women’s basketball team on Sunday, in the Wheaton College Tip-Off Tournament consolation game, beating them 69-61. Lasell’s Tricia Culver (N. Hampton, Mass.) was selected to the All-Tournament team after producing 17 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, making 4 steals, and dishing out 3 assists against Clarkson. Culver finished the weekend with a total of 28 points, 12 boards, 6 assists, and 4 steals.

    Three Lasers posted double digits in scoring against Wheaton College in women’s basketball action on Saturday, but it was not enough to get the Lasers past the Lyons in their season opener. Lasell debuted at the Wheaton College Tip-Off Tournament, and though the Lasers kept the game within range into the early parts of the second half, the Lyons ran away with a 92-53 win and advanced to the championship game.
