OWLS SOAR PAST LASERS

Westfield, Mass.- Lasell's junior forward Tricia Culver (N. Hampton, Mass.) scored a game high 14 points against the Owls of Westfield State College on Saturday, December 13th, but Westfield's balanced scoring attack overcame the Lasers, who fell 37-78.

Lasell tied the game at nine in the opening half, with 14:09 on the clock, when Culver put back a shot and made a trip to the charity stripe for the three point play.  The teams remained in the draw for two minutes, at which time the Owls regained control of the lead as Katie Sylvain (Hadley, Mass.) converted on a fast break.  Westfield then took off on a 20-2 streak, shooting 43.2%, as compared to Lasell's 15% in the half, and built up a 41-14 lead at the break.  Culver was leading all scorers heading into the intermission with nine points.

The Owls controlled the tempo of the second half as well, and although Lasell shot significantly better, the Owls remained hot, having three athletes score in double digits.  Westfield also held a considerable advantage on the boards, with Molly Brogan (Mendon, Mass.) pulling down 14, including 9 offensive rebounds, and the team finishing with 55 overall rebounds as compared to Lasell's 32.

Amanda Driscoll (Roslindale, Mass.) and Katie Farr (Rindge, NH) each secured five points and four rebounds for the visitors.  Culver also picked up four boards.

Lasell concludes the semester with a 3-7 record and will pick up non-conference play in the second semester with a home contest against Western Connecticut State University at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 8th.  The Lasers begin conference play in the GNAC on Saturday, January 10th at Albertus Magnus College, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
