LASERS FALL TO GOLDEN KNIGHTS

Clarkson University took a narrow victory over the Lasell College Lasers' women's basketball team on Sunday, in the Wheaton College Tip-Off Tournament consolation game, beating them 69-61.  Lasell's Tricia Culver (N. Hampton, Mass.) was selected to the All-Tournament team after producing 17 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, making 4 steals, and dishing out 3 assists against Clarkson.  Culver finished the weekend with a total of 28 points, 12 boards, 6 assists, and 4 steals.

Despite having a disadvantage in both rebounds (9-22) and shot percentage (51%-54%) during the first half of play, the Lasers matched up strong against the Golden Knights.   After two swings in the lead, and twice settling into a tie, Golden Knights came up with a 42-38 edge heading into the intermission.

Shauna Kelly (Quincy, Mass.) opened the second stanza with a lay-up that brought the Lasers within two.  The Golden Knights then went on a 7-0 run, led by Clarkson's All-Tournament team pick, Michelle Reddinger (Baldwinsville, NY), who completed a double-double with 24 points and 13 rebounds.

The Lasers brought the game back within three following a three-pointer by sophomore guard Katie Farr (Rindge, NH) just under the ten minute mark, but that was the closest the Lasers got to the Golden Knights from that point forward. The score remained close throughout the final minutes, but Clarkson came out the victors.

Kelly was Lasell's leading scorer, ending the game with 20 points, to go along with 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.  Schumitz closed out the game with 6 points, 6 boards, 2 steals and 2 assists, and freshman JoAnna Bishop (So. Burlington, VT) added another six points and boards.

The next contest for the Lasers is slated against Eastern Nazarene College in their home opener on Wednesday, November 19th.  Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m.
