Sharks Strike Lasers, 66-45

The Sharks of Simmons College were the victors in GNAC women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon, taking a 66-45 win away from Lasell College.  The Lasers finish the night at 6-15 and 3-5 in the GNAC, while the Sharks bump their records to 15-6 and 6-2 in the conference.

Katie Schumitz (Milford, CT) registered a three pointer to start the game off in the right direction for the Lasers.  The visitors held a one point advantage for nearly seven minutes into the game, when Simmons Alex Alocque put in a jumper to put the Sharks ahead.

The home team went on a 12-1 run, which culminated in a seventeen point lead by the five minute mark of the first.  The teams went into the break with a decisive eighteen point gap between them, 34-16.

The Sharks continued to pull away from the Lasers, shooting 42% in the second.  Lasell also shot better in the second half, from 22% to 27%, with JoAnna Bishop (South Burlington, VT) and Kelsey Converse (Laconia, NH) combining for 15 second half points, but it was not enough.  Simmons held a 16 rebound advantage over the course of the game, while also shooting 83% from the free throw line to overpower the Lasers, 66-45, at the final buzzer.

Bishop ended the game with 12 points and four rebounds.  Converse registered nine total points and picked up 3 boards and 3 assists.  Tricia Culver (North Hampton, Mass.) collected six grabs off the backboard and threw in four points.
