Rivier Tops Women’s Hoops

Newton, Mass.-  Rivier College took home a 92-54 win over Lasell College in women's hoops tonight, on the back of junior guard Blair Carpenter (Meredith, NH) who drilled six trey's, finishing with 27 total points for the visitors.  The Raiders boast a 14-6 record, and are 6-2 in the GNAC coming off tonight's victory.  The Lasers fall to 6-14, with a 3-4 conference record.

 

Lasell started by going up to start the contest, but the Raiders quickly claimed the lead and never looked back. Carpenter and Monica White (Augusta, ME) each tripled up on three pointers, and reached double figures by the end of the half.


The Lasers spread out their scoring attack in the first half with Shauna Kelly (Quincy, Mass.) putting up 9 points, and Katie Farr (Rindge, NH), JoAnna Bishop (South Burlington, VT) and Tricia Culver (North Hampton, Mass.) putting in another twenty combined.

 

The Raiders continued to shoot lights out from behind the arc in the second.  Carpenter added three more connections onto her first half success, and Justine Nims (Weare, NH) dropped in three as well from downtown.  The Raiders also shot 100% from the charity stripe to bump their advantage further.

 

Kelly was the highlight of the second for the Lasers, as she pushed for fifteen more points, predominantly in the final ten minutes of the game.  Katie Schumitz (Milford, Conn.) picked up four rebounds in the half, and Culver added five second half grabs off the glass.  Lasell also shot 100% from the line in the second, and 90.9% overall in the game.

 

Carpenter complimented her 27 points with 6 rebounds.  White completed the evening with 20 points, in addition to 7 rebounds for the Raiders.  Nims collected 19 total points and five rebounds and junior forward Jessica Mellen (Rockland, Mass.) played strong all around with a 13 point, 8 rebound, 5 assist night.

 

Finishing with a 24 points, 6 rebounds, two assists and three steal performance was Kelly for Lasell.  Farr came out with nine points, three boards and two assists, and Culver had eight for each, boards and points.

 

Both teams are back in action on Saturday, with Rivier traveling to Johnson & Wales while Lasell will head to Simmons 1:00 p.m. start against the Sharks.
