    CENTERVILLE, MA -- After finishing the regular season with a 15-5 record, Western New England was selected as the No. 1 seed in the 2011 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III New England Women’s Lacrosse Championship. The tournament is a four-team field with the semifinal games on Wednesday and the championship game on Saturday.

    NEWTON, MA- After a tightly played game, the no. 2 seeded Lasell College women’s lacrosse team scored four straight goals in the middle of the second half to put away no. 3 seed Emerson College, 18-14, on Friday afternoon in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament semi-finals. With the win the Lasers secured a spot in the GNAC Championship which will take place on Sunday, May 1st at no. 1 seeded, and regular season champion, Norwich University.

    The 2011 GNAC Women’s Lacrosse Playoff pairings are now available. The reigning 2010 GNAC tournament champions, Norwich University (8-0, 8-2) clinched first place in the conference. The Cadets played an extraordinary regular season, going undefeated in conference play and only suffering two overall losses to non-conference opponents.

    NEWTON, MA- Lasell College women’s lacrosse finished off the 2011 regular season prevailing 19-6 over Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Emmanuel College today to improve their overall record to 10-5 and their GNAC slate to 7-1. The Lasers currently stand in second place in the league behind present leader Norwich University who are unbeaten at 6-0 in the conference with two games left to play. Emmanuel falls to 3-8 this season, and 2-6 in the league with one game left to play.

The loss breaks up a seven game winning streak for the Lasers and moves them to 9-5 this season, while the Rams land at 4-6 with the win.

The Lasers took the lead 1:36 into play and never looked back as they processed their sixth straight win this season to complete the day with an 8-4 overall and a 5-1 GNAC record. Emerson slips to 3-8 this season, and 3-2 in conference action.

The Lasers were led by sophomore Neila Kudla (Groton, MA) and senior Chelsea Caren (Redding, CT) who scored five goals each, Caren adding two assists for a game-best seven points. Both team’s records settle at 3-4 this season after the contest and level out at 1-1 in the league.

Lasell stands at 1-3 this season and Anna Maria holds at 0-2.

    Emerson College, the winner of the 2009 GNAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship, has been selected as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women’s Lacrosse preseason favorite in a vote conducted by GNAC coaches. St. Joseph’s Maine was edged to second place by one point, while Norwich, the 2010 GNAC Champions, took third. Lasell earned a fourth place ranking, Mount Ida took 5th while Simmons College rounded out the rankings in 6th place in the 2011 preseason poll.
