Lasers Defeat GNAC Preseason Favorite Emerson

NEWTON, MA- On a cold and rainy Wednesday afternoon, the Lasell College women's lacrosse team defeated Great Northeast Athletic Conference preseason favorite Emerson College, 15-11, on Grellier Field.  The Lasers took the lead 1:36 into play and never looked back as they processed their sixth straight win this season to complete the day with an 8-4 overall and a 5-1 GNAC record.  Emerson slips to 3-8 this season, and 3-2 in conference action.

 

Tina Canavan (Stonington, CT) was the scorer of the first tally in the match, and also the leading scorer in the entire game as she finished the day with five goals and one assist.  In addition, Canavan amassed five draw controls in the contest, also a game-high.   

 

Britney Wuorio (Bolton, MA) and Neila Kudla (Groton, MA) knocked off five points each against the Lions.  Wuorio netted three goals and handed out two helpers while Kudla scored four times and dished out one assist.   Ashley Slattery (Weymouth, MA) also contributed with two goals and one assist.

 

Kristin Coderre (Monson, MA), a four time GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week honoree this season, earned her eighth win of the season in net for Lasell.  Coderre made nine saves to preserve the victory.

 

Emerson first got on the board in the 23rd minute when Katie Dodge (West Newbury, MA) connected on a free possession shot.  That would be the first of five goals for Dodge who led the Lions offensively.  Chelsea Phillips (Waterford, CT) added four goals to the visitors score, scoring twice in each half of play, and Nikki Lecuyer (Shrewsbury, MA) and Christina Riccitelli (West Haven, CT) completed Emerson's scoring with a goal each.  Riccitelli also had a team best five draw controls in the game and Mackenzie Johnson (Pasedena, MD) distributed two assists for the Lions.

 

Emily Saeger (Center Valley, PA) suffered the loss in goal for the Lions, making six saves throughout the contest.

 

Lasell hits the road on Saturday, April 16th for another league contest against Rivier College at 11:00 a.m.
