Framingham Breaks Lasell’s Seven-Game Win Streak with One Tick Left on the Clock

FRAMINGHAM, MA- With just one second left in regulation, Framingham State's sophomore Louie Rijo (Salem, MA) broke a 12-all tie to defeat Lasell College women's lacrosse, 13-12, in non-conference action at Maple Street Field on Tuesday night.  The loss breaks up a seven game winning streak for the Lasers and moves them to 9-5 this season, while the Rams land at 4-6 with the win.

After heading into the halftime break in arrears 8-1 after just one goal from Lasell's Rebecca Stanton (Agawam, MA) in the first thirty minutes, Lasell pushed for six unanswered goals in the final ten minutes of the game to level the score at 12-all.  Tina Canavan (Stonington, CT) scored a pair of unassisted goals in the 6-0 run, including the contest tying tally with 22 seconds left in the game.

The Rams controlled the final draw and drove the ball quickly down field, setting up the game-deciding mark by Rijo as time expired.

Canavan recorded a game-best seven points in the game, scoring twice and adding five assists, setting a new Lasell College single game record for assists in a game. Stanton put in four goals and freshman Britney Wuorio (Bolton, MA) connected twice.

Rijo led the Rams with six points, scoring five goals and adding an assist.

The Lasers return to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Thursday, April 21st, as they host Emmanuel at 4 p.m. on Grellier Field.
