Seniors Shine on Women’s Lacrosse Senior Day

NEWTON, MA-  Five of Lasell's six senior women's lacrosse players scored points in their Senior Day game on Saturday in a 21-2 trouncing of St. Joseph College of Connecticut.  Kristin Coderre (Monson, MA), the one senior who did not score in the contest, earned the win for Lasell in net, making six saves. 

 

Tina Canavan (Stonington, CT) led all the seniors with four points, scoring two goals and adding two assists in her first game of the season.  Canavan was the first to score in the contest, netting her first point of the season 4:33 into play, assisted by senior Chelsea Caren (Redding, CT).  Caren finished the game with two points, both scored on assists. Seniors April McGrath (Willow Grove, PA), Lawren Wigmore (Scituate, MA), and Ariel Walmark (West Hartford, CT) each notched one goal apiece.  Wigmore's goal was the final of the contest, scored with just 22 seconds left to play. 

 

Sophomore Ashley Slattery (Weymouth, MA) amassed a game-high six points, scoring five times and adding one assist.  Slattery also took control of the draw five times, another game-best, and added three ground balls.   Freshman Britney Wuorio (Bolton, MA) and sophomore Rebecca Stanton (Agawam, MA) tallied three goals each in the game. Stanton also picked up four draw controls.  

 

Four more Lasers put up marks today as well.  Sophomore Neila Kudla (Groton, MA) and freshman Kate Vittands (Gloucester, MA) had a pair of goals each and Riley Fickett (Nottingham, NH) completed the Lasers scoring with her first goal of the season.  Libbie Anderson (Ayer, MA) rounded out the dozen Lasers with points, handing off the helper on Stanton's second goal. 

 

Diana Soucier (Avon, CT) was the sole Blue Jay to make a mark on the scoreboard today, scoring twice in the contest.  Soucier first scored midway through the first half and then struck again with 8:47 left to play. 

 

Lasell won the battle at the draw by doubling the Blue Jays total draw controls, 16-8.  Lasell also doubled up on shots, 26-13, and held a 12-4 advantage in ground balls.

 

Stacey Velasquez (Norwalk, CT) was hit with the loss in St. Joseph's goal, making two stops for the day. 

 

The Lasers will play again on Monday, April 4th at Nichols College in a previously postponed contest.  Game time against the Bison is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
