Lasers Post Seventh Straight Win after GNAC Battle with Rivier

NASHUA, NH- After playing through a 7-all stalemate through the first half of women's lacrosse action today, Lasell College outscored the Rivier College Raiders, 8-4, in the second half to take a 15-11 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory.

The Lasers trailed for 29:39 minutes in the first quarter before scoring three straight goals to end the first half in the final three minutes, evening out the tally to 7-all at halftime.  Rebecca Stanton (Agawam, MA) netted the game-tying goal with 21 seconds left in the first half cap the period.

Lasell stretched their 3-0 run into a 9-0 run through the first eight minutes of the second half.  Five different Lasers scored in the streak, led by Tina Canavan (Stonington, CT) with two goals and one assist.  Ashley Slattery (Weymouth, MA) connected with the game winner in the seventh minute off of Canavan's stick.

Rivier converted on their final four goals through a 10 minute spell between the 19th and the 9th minute while Lasell added on two more insurance tallies in the final 15 minutes to keep distance between the teams.

Canavan had six points in the conference battle which bettered the Lasers overall record to 9-4 and their league slate to 6-1. Kristin Coderre (Monson, MA) was the winning goalkeeper in the contest, making 14 saves to obtain the victory.

Rivier also holds a 9-4 season record, but drops to 3-4 in GNAC competition. Caileigh Bertolaccini took the loss in net for the Raiders, turning aside nine Laser shots in the game.

Lasell has one more non-conference game on Tuesday, April 19th when they go down the road to Framingham State College to challenge the Rams at 4:30 p.m.
