• Pratt & Jannuzzi Honored by the NAC

    Newton, Mass.-- Two Lasell College field hockey players were selected to the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) All-Conference teams for the 2009 season. Tia Pratt, a junior midfielder from South Paris, Maine, was chosen as a member of the first team and Sara Jannuzzi, a junior defender from Glen, New Hampshire, was selected to the second team.

    Julia Ostrowski of St. Joseph's College of Maine was selected the North Atlantic Conference Field Hockey Player of the Year in a vote by the conference coaches. The senior forward led the league with 11 goals in conference play and along with 4 assists had a hand in over half of her team's goals as the Monks finished conference play 7-0.

    Nashua, NH – Sara Januzzi’s (Glen, N.H.) tip in off of a Tia Pratt (S. Paris, Maine) shot in overtime gave Lasell College a 2-1 victory over host Daniel Webster College in a regional field hockey matchup Tuesday afternoon, at Harvey Woods Field. Jannuzzi’s eighth season goal sealed the third straight victory for the Lasers, who now hold a 7-8 record.

Paris, ME) was recognized as the North Atlantic Conference Player of the Week and for the third straight week Matthew Scully (Watertown, Conn.) was selected as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference men’s cross country Rookie of the Week.

Concetta Nicoloro (Arlington, Mass.) was chosen as field hockey Rookie of the Week by the North Atlantic Conference, while the Great Northeast Athletic Conference selected Matthew Scully (Watertown, Conn.) as men’s cross country and Mike Skelton (Conway, NH) as men’s soccer Rookies of the Week.

    Nashua, NH—Concetta Nicoloro (Arlington, Mass.) scored two goals late in the second period to bring the Lasell College field hockey team past NAC challenger Rivier College on Saturday afternoon. Nicoloro’s game-winner was scored with just 15 minutes remaining to give Lasell their second consecutive NAC win. The final score of the contest was 4-1.

This is the Lasers second consecutive victory this week, improving their record to 2-5 as they head into two North Atlantic Conference games this weekend.

    Weston, Mass.—Lasell College notched its first win of the season in a 7-0 field hockey shutout against neighboring Regis College on Tuesday afternoon. Rookie goalkeeper Erin Norton (Yarmouth, ME) was responsible for the shutout as Lasell finished the day at the 1-5 mark overall.

    Newton, Mass.—Kealy Chipman (Bellow Falls, VT) scored three goals for the Spartans of Castleton State College today en route to a 10-3 North Atlantic Conference win over the Lasell College field hockey team. The victory marked the first win of the 2009 season for the Spartans, who were predicted to be the top team in the league this season during preseason polls. Castleton improves to 1-5 overall, 1-0 NAC. Lasell falls to 0-5 overall, and 0-1 in the NAC.

  • Lasers Drop Tough Game to Wheaton

    Newton, Mass.- It was a hard fought battle on a wet and chilly Grellier Field today as the Lasell College Lasers took on the Wheaton College Lyons in non-conference field hockey action. With just over one minute elapsed into the second half, the visiting Lyons scored what proved to be the game winning goal followed by a security goal in the final fifteen minutes. Wheaton left triumphant at 4-2.

Though the score did not reflect in the Lasers favor, Lasell saw some fine performances, particularly from sophomore goalkeeper Christine Thornton (Canton, Mass.).
