Lasers Down Wildcats 4-1

Boston, Mass.-Junior captain Sara Jannuzzi (Glen, NH) scored twice as the Lasell College Field Hockey team downed Wheelock 4-1 in non-conference play on Thursday evening.  This is the Lasers second consecutive victory this week, improving their overall record to 2-5, as they head into two North Atlantic Conference games this weekend.

Wheelock's Jacquilyn Hull (Braintree, Mass.) made the first mark of the game, scoring with just under ten minutes elapsed in the contest.  The Lasers remained in arrears for nearly twenty minutes at which point Kasey Looney (Leicester, Mass.) stabilized the score for Lasell.

Looney's goal, her second of the season, came unassisted as she sliced the ball past Wheelock's keeper Meredith Race (Marion, Mass.).   Lasell's sophomore goalkeeper Christine Thornton (Canton, Mass.) made seven saves in net during the first period.

Upon returning to the action, Lasell came out renewed and scored almost immediately to take the lead.  At 37:46, Hannah Cebry (Burlington, Conn.) delivered the ball to teammate Concetta Nicoloro (Arlington, Mass.) who pitched in the game-winner as the Lasers took the lead for good.

Jannuzzi's two goals came uninterrupted at the 58th and 61st minutes of the contest to safeguard the Lasers advantage.  Tia Pratt (S. Paris, ME) fastened the pass to Jannuzzi on her first goal, while Cebry was the connector on the second.

Thornton made seven additional saves in the second half shutout, finishing the contest with 14 saves overall.  Amanda Gorski (Wetherfield, Conn.) also aided in the backfield for the Lasers as she was responsible for one defensive save.

The Lasers face off against University of Maine, Farmington and Thomas College this weekend in NAC action.  Lasell will first meet Farmington (2-3) on their home field Saturday, then travel to Thomas (1-5) for a Sunday showdown.
