Pratt's Goal Lifts Lasers over Simmons in NAC Play

Boston, Mass.- After playing through a scoreless  tie for the first 30 minutes of tonight's contest, Lasell's Tia Pratt (S. Paris, ME) provided the lone goal of the game for the Lasers field hockey team, who prevailed with a 1-0 NAC victory over Simmons College.

Sophomore goalkeeper Christine Thornton (Canton, Mass.) was a standout in the contest, making 12 stops on the way to her first shutout of the season.  Thornton collected those saves over the entire 70 minute contest.

Neither team held a decisive advantage in shots or penalty corners.  Simmons outshot Lasell 21-18, while Lasell held a one stroke advantage in penalty corners (14-13).  Both squads were unable to capitalize on the extra opportunities.

With just over four minutes left to play in the first period, Lasell's senior Justine McComb (Bloomfield, Conn.) slipped a feed past Simmons defenders to Pratt who proceeded to blast a shot into the cage past the Sharks goalkeeper Jen Szholt.

Pratt was able to attempt eight shots for the Lasers through the entire contest, with McComb taking four and Sara Jannuzzi (Glen, NH) adding three more shots chances.  Though the rest of regulation passed without anymore scoring, the one injection was all that Lasell needed to boost their NAC slate to 3-2 (5-8 overall).

The Lasers will face Anna Maria College on Grellier Field on Saturday, October 17th, at 11:30 a.m., during Family, Friends, and Alumni weekend at Lasell College.   The contest will also mark the Lasers senior day, when they will honor their sole senior, Justine McComb, for her contributions to the field hockey program.
