• Lasell's Baseball Season Ends with 5-3 Loss to Rams

    Waltham, Mass.- The Lasell College baseball season came to an end Tuesday evening with a 5-3 loss to the Framingham State Rams. The Lasers attempted a late comeback in the final innings of the contest, but the Rams held on for their 11th win of the season.

    Newton, Mass.- Two Lasell College freshman baseball players have been selected to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference All-Conference team for the 2009 season. Mike Mahoney, a pitcher from Rockland, Massachusetts was selected at the 2009 GNAC Rookie of the Year, and Josh Sullivan, a pitcher and second baseman also from Rockland, Massachusetts, was chosen as a third team All Conference honoree.

    New Haven, Conn.- Carlton Lentini (Wilmington, Mass.) cracked a three run homer in the top of the sixth inning to give Lasell College a 7-6 lead in the first round of the GNAC baseball tournament, but the Albertus Magnus Falcons retaliated with three final runs to steal a 9-7 victory to move onto the league quarter finals.

    Waltham, Mass- Lasell took the second game of a GNAC baseball doubleheader with Emerson on Sunday afternoon in a 14-10 victory over the Lions. Mike Mahoney (Rockland, Mass.) pitched four innings for the Lasers in the win, with Randy Weiner (Randolph, Mass.) taking the save. Lasell finishes GNAC the regular season of their inaugural year at 10-21 overall, and an impressive 6-9 in the conference.
  • Lasers Seal Incredible 5-4 Win over Becker with Game Ending Double Play

    Waltham, Mass.- With bases loaded in the top of the ninth inning, Lasell turned a textbook double play to seal a 5-4 victory over Becker College. Lasell’s Josh Sullivan (Rockland, Mass.) earned the win on the mound, pitching phenomenal in seven innings, producing 10 strikeouts, allowing six hits and just one earned run.
  • Lasell's Rookie Baseball Program Secures a Spot in GNAC Playoffs

    Waltham, Mass.- Rich Balgowan (Hamilton, NJ) gave Lasell their first home victory today starting on the diamond, earning a 17-1 victory over the Rivier College Raiders in GNAC baseball action. Balgowan struck out nine en route to the conference win in seven complete innings. The Lasers also won the nightcap, 9-1, against the Raiders with Mike Mahoney (Rockland, Mass.) on the mound. The Lasers improve their record to a 8-18 slate and a 4-8 conference mark. With these two wins, the first year NCAA program has secured a spot in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference playoffs.

    Waltham, Mass.- The University of Massachusetts, Boston came around home five times in the first inning to seal the Lasers fate, as they tore their way to a 17-3 advantage. The Beacons’ bats were led by freshman centerfielder Mark McCormack (Shelton, Conn.) who went 5 for 6 hitting, with two RBI’s and five runs.

    Newton, Mass- The Newbury College baseball team handed Lasell College a non-conference loss tonight, 13-3, at Brandeis University. Junior center fielder Billy Maddock (Marshfield, Mass.) led for the Nighthawks, going 4 for 5, hitting two doubles, one triple, and a two run homer earning seven RBI’s on the evening. The Lasers are now 6-15 on the year, while Newbury College takes their second win of the season, at 2-17 overall.

    St. Joe’s used a balanced attack in game one of a doubleheader scoring one run in the first, four in the third, seven in the fifth and six in the seventh inning to account for the 18 runs in a victory over the Lasers. The first place Monks improved their conference record to 6-1 and proved they are the team to beat in the conference.

    Nashua, N.H. – Jim Amon (Warren, NJ) knocked an infield single with two outs at the top of the 10th inning to send pinch runner Carl Lentini (Wilmington, Mass.) home scoring the winning run as Lasell tipped Daniel Webster College 3-2 in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday. The Lasers ended a six-game skid with the win and improved their record to 4-11 on the year.

    East Providence, RI- Lasell College lost two in their GNAC opener with Johnson & Wales University on Saturday afternoon, in a doubleheader at Pierce Field. The Wildcats posted a 9-0 victory in the first game, then took a 6-2 victory in the nightcap.

    Newton, Mass.- Opening day for the Lasell College Baseball team was a rainy and cold event at Brandeis College, which ended after eight innings with Wentworth Institute of Technology defeating the Lasers 20-7. Though the Lasers came out ahead in the bottom of the second, the Leopards fought back to go ahead 6-3 in the fourth, and ran away with the game in the sixth. WIT is now 12-4 this year, while the Lasers fall to 3-8.

    BROOKLYN, NY- The Lasell College inaugural baseball team produced their first two wins on Sunday in a double-header at Saint Joseph’s College (NY). The Lasers were led by Patrick Girard (Stonington, Conn.), who went 5-for-9 (.556), with one triple, batting in three and scoring four.
