Lasers Drop Two GNAC Games to Wildcats

East Providence, RI-  Lasell College lost two in their GNAC opener with Johnson & Wales University on Saturday afternoon, in a doubleheader at Pierce Field.  The Wildcats posted a 9-0 victory in the first game, then took a 6-2 victory in the nightcap.

 

The Wildcats got on the board in the top of the second with an RBI single y Nick Alosco (Mahopac, NY).  JWU went up 2-0 after Eric Rapuano (Clinton, Conn.) drew a bases loaded walk to earn the RBI. 

 

JWU extended their lead with three more runs in the third.  The Lasers got in scoring position in the fourth as Josh Sullivan (Rockland, Mass.) singled through the left side and Conor Cavanaugh (Quincy, Mass.) doubled to left field.  Unfortunately for the Lasers, the inning ended with a fly out before they could store the runs.

 

Johnson & Wales knocked in their final four runs in the seventh.  Senior Ryan Morgan (Exeter, RI) took the complete-game victory for the Wildcats in seven innings.

 

In the second contest of the day, the Lasers took an early lead when they capitalized on a pair of JWU errors in the first.  Freshman Matt Mahoney (Rockland, Mass.) got on base on one of those errors, and Patrick Girard (Stonington, Conn.) knocked a single to the left field side.  Mahoney scored on a JWU pitcher's error and Jim Amon (Warren, NJ) brought home Girard on an RBI single to go up 2-0.

 

The Wildcats closed in on the Lasers in the second on an RBI groundout by Frank Nadjavestky (Avenel, NJ) and tied the game with an RBI single by Michael sarafati (North Plainfield, NJ). 

 

In the third inning, JWU took the lead as Alosco scored of a Rapuano triple, and further advanced their advantage in the fourth when Sarfati scored on a sacrifice fly.  The Wildcats sealed their second GNAC victory with two more runs in the seventh.

 

The Lasers are now 3-8 overall and 0-2 in the GNAC.  The Lasers return to the diamond on Tuesday, March 31st at Daniel Webster College in Nashua, NH.
