Lasell Falls to Crusaders in Non-Conference Action

Quincy, Mass.- The Lasers fell to non-conference opponents Eastern Nazarene College on Friday 4-1 at Bradley Field.

The Lasers fell behind in the second inning as Nate Leaser (Solana, CA) doubled to the centerfield fence.  Fellow Crusader Justin Denbow (Readfield, ME) doubled through left center to bring Leaser home.  Denbow was then driven home by Johan Villalona (Bronx, NY) giving the Crusaders a 2-0 edge.

Over the next two innings the Lasers defense held off any further advance, with Matt Mahoney (Rockland, Mass.) on the mound.  Mahoney worked himself out of a sticky top of the fifth with bases loaded and no outs, striking out two and a pop up to Ryan Walsh (Stoneham, Mass.) in left field ended the session, keeping the game within reach.

In the bottom of that inning, the Lasers made the game even closer when Junior Veija (Randolph, Mass.) scored for Lasell.  Veija got on base off a double to the left field fence, followed by Steve Vanderwerken (Rockport, Mass.) bunting to get on base and advancing Veija to third.  Walsh drove Veija home on a sacrifice hit to end the inning 2-1.

The Lasers remained in a deficit of one until the seventh when Carlos Silver (Manhatten, NY) got on base off a Laser error, then Dave Dickerson (North Plainfield, NJ) rocketed a two-run homer to finish the scoring at 4-1.

Lasers' Matt Mahoney (2-1) gets the loss while pitching six and two thirds inning, giving up five hits, four walks and striking out six.
