Mahoney, Hessler Pick Up GNAC Honors

Newton, Mass-  Mike Mahoney and Meredith Hessler have been selected as the GNAC Rookie of the Week in their respective sports.  This is Mahoney's second nomination for Rookie of the Week in baseball this season, this is also Hessler's second recognition in women's lacrosse.

Mahoney, a freshman pitcher/out fielder from Rockland, Massachusetts was selected after earning a 14-10 win over Emerson this week, while striking out two on the mound.  He also played a significant role in the Lasers' win over Becker College (5-4) and had seven hits, four runs, and two RBI's in the week.

Mahoney is leading the team with a .329 batting average this season.  He has 25 hits, 12 runs, and 14 RBI's.  He also has a 3-1 pitching record with a 3.21 era, having made seven appearances on the mound this season.  He has pitched 33.2 innings, and struck out 28 batters.

Hessler is a midfielder from Middletown, Rhode Island who has made quite an impact already on the women's lacrosse team as a freshman.  Hessler has started in all sixteen games for Lasell this season, scoring 20 goals and adding eight assists.  She is also leading the team in ground balls, with 47, and is second on the team with 40 draw controls. 

This week, Hessler was selected after scoring three goals and adding an assist en route to a 2-1 week for Lasell.  She also picked up 10 draw controls and added eight groundballs.
