MLX: Lasell overpowers Dean to remain unbeaten in GNAC play

NEWTON, Mass. – Lasell University got goals from 10 different players Wednesday afternoon, rolling to a 19-1 victory over Dean College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's lacrosse contest at Grellier Field.

The Lasers won their third game in a row, improving to 6-2 overall and remaining unbeaten in GNAC games this spring (4-0). Dean, in its first season as a member of the GNAC, dropped to 0-2 both overall and in conference games.

Senior Colby Buccheri (Rowley, Mass.) led the Laser scoring parade with four goals, while senior Andrew Fidalgo (Wilbraham, Mass.) and junior James Anderson (Medway, Mass.) tallied three goals apiece. Juniors Bash Cunningham (Norwalk, Conn.) and Jordan Hines (Essex Junction, Vt.) added two scores each for the high-scoring Lasers.

Other strong performances from the Lasers included junior Tyler Rose (Springfield, Mass.), who picked up a team-high eight ground balls, and classmate Steven Phelps (Stamford, Conn.), who won 14 of his 16 face-offs. Junior goalie Alex Beauchemin (Westfield, Mass.) stopped all seven shots on goal that he faced in 45 minutes between the pipes.

The game was never in doubt, as Lasell led 6-0 after the first quarter, 10-0 at the half, and 13-0 after three quarters. Freshman Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) prevented the whitewash, scoring Dean's only goal with seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

Dean junior goalie Alexander Govoni (Lakeville, Mass.) made 19 saves and allowed 13 goals in three quarters, while sophomore James Rollins (Old Lyme, Conn.) worked the final quarter.

Both teams face familiar foes in their next outing. Lasell takes on Norwich University, a team it defeated 12-11 last Saturday, next Tuesday, April 20, at Grellier Field at 4:00 p.m. The Bulldogs travel to Emmanuel on Saturday for a 12 p.m. rematch against the Saints. The two teams battled to overtime last weekend with Emmanuel edging Dean 11-10.
