MLX: Lasell drops non-conference game at Conn. College

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Lasell University men's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference road game to Connecticut College, 20-9, Saturday afternoon at Silfen Field.

Sophomore Jared Rainville (Watertown, Conn.) factored into seven goals to lead the Camels with three goals and four assists. Sophomore Gus Mazzocca (West Hartford, Conn.) added four goals to help the home team improves its record to 2-0.

Graduate student Chase Kapuscienski (Grafton, Mass.) led the Lasers with three goals and senior Colby Buccheri (Rowley, Mass.) added a pair but the Lasers dropped to 3-2.

Conn College proved to be a formidable for the Lasers, as the hosts ran out to a 5-0 lead after the first quarter and extended it to 9-0 midway through the second frame. Mazzocca had a pair of first-quarter goals, and Rainville contributed two goals and two assists to that point.

Lasell came alive with a pair of goals by Kapuscienski, including a man-up marker, but the Camels ended the half with three goals to take a 12-2 at the break. Lasell matched Conn College in the third quarter with each team scoring five goals, and CC outscored the Lasers 3-2 in the final stanza.

Conn College dominated the face-offs, winning 25 of 31, and had advantages of 64-23 in shots and 50-16 in ground balls.

Senior Alex Beauchemin (Westfield, Mass.) survived the barrage of shots, making 14 saves in the Laser goal.

Lasell will play another non-conference game on Tuesday, April 6, hosting New England College at 4:00 p.m.
