MLX: Lasell powers past Anna Maria in GNAC opener

PAXTON, Mass. – The Lasell University men's lacrosse team used a balanced scoring attack to overpower Anna Maria College, 20-4, Saturday afternoon in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener at Caparso Field.

Senior Andrew Fidalgo (Wilbraham, Mass.) led the way with four goals and one assist, while classmate Colby Buccheri (Rowley, Mass.) added four points on a goal and three assists. Fourteen different Lasers got into the scoring act, with juniors Max Litchfield (Barrington, N.H.) and James Anderson (Medway, Mass.) and sophomore Brendan Dean (Kingston, Mass.) tallying two goals apiece.

The Lasers had the advantage most of the day, jumping out to a 7-0 lead after one quarter. It was 10-1 at halftime and 15-2 after three quarters before the visitors coasted to the victory. Lasell won 19 of the 28 face-offs, had a 63-23 margin in shots, and a 46-20 advantage in ground balls.

Lasell junior goalie Alex Beauchemin (Westfield, Mass.) earned the victory after making five saves on six shots in 44 minutes between the pipes. Freshman Mike Mansfield (Braintree, Mass.) made one save in his 16-minute stint in goal. Anna Maria senior goalkeeper Gage Garcia (Newington, CT) record a season-high 16 saves on the day.

Lasell (2-1, 1-0 GNAC) returns home to host Emmanuel College in a GNAC affair this Tuesday, March 30, at 4:00 p.m. at Grellier Field. Anna Maria (1-3, 1-2 GNAC) hosts Saint Joseph's College of Maine in a 6:00 p.m. GNAC contest on the same day.
