Lasers beat Raiders led by Speight’s hat trick; end regular season at 11-5-1.

Nashua, NH

The Lasell University woman's soccer team defeated the Rivier University Raiders 7-1 Wednesday afternoon at Joanne Merrill Field. The win moves the Lasers to 11-5-1 overall and 11-1-1 in GNAC play.

The Lasers got on the board in the first minute of the game when Serena Speight (Biddeford, ME) sent a through ball to a running Emily DeHart (Farmington, CT). DeHart then took a couple of dribbles inside the box and slotted the ball into the right-hand side of the net to make it 1-0 Lasers.

Twenty-three minutes later, Speight got another assist when she crossed the ball into the box toward Bobbi O'Guin. O'Guin flicked the ball up to get around her defender, got control of the ball, and then fired it into the net to increase the Laser lead.

The Raiders got on the board in the 40th minute when Kaylee Magoon (Loudon, NH) passed the ball to Madison Curran (Pelham, NH). Curran got control of the ball and shot it into the net to bring the Raiders within one goal going into halftime.

In the span of seven minutes into the second half, Serena Speight recorded a hat trick. Her first goal was assisted by Bobbi O'Guin, and the remaining two goals were unassisted.

The Lasers increased their lead to 6-1 in the 56th minute when Speight recorded her second assist of the game as she passed the ball to Michelina D'Agostino (Longmeadow, MA). D'Agostino then shot it into the net. Three minutes later Reana Duran (Port Jefferson Station, NY) recorded her first NCAA goal to make it 7-1 Lasers.

That would remain the score when the full-time whistle blew.

The Laser goalies finished the game with two saves. One by Elizabeth DaSilva (Somerville, MA) and one by Riley Silvia (Raymond, ME)

The Lasers are back in action this Saturday as they will be hosting a GNAC Quarterfinal matchup against Colby-Sawyer at 12 p.m.
