Lasers defeat  Sharks on Senior Day

Newton, MA

The Lasell University woman's soccer team defeated the Simmons Sharks 6-0 on senior day at Taylor Field. The win moves the Lasers to 8-5-1 overall and 8-1-1 in GNAC play. The loss drops Simmons to 2-11-2 (1-81).

Senior Kyli Swann (Queen Creek, AZ), senior Caroline St. Croix (Lowville, NY), senior Maria Henriquez (Malden, MA), senior Bobbi O'Guin (Newton, MA), senior Alexys Suojanen (Windsor Locks, CT), and senior Helen Bugaev (Westborough, MA) were all honored before the game. 

The Lasers would get on the board early in the game when in the 13th minute Serena Speight (Biddeford, ME) passed the ball to a running Bobbi O'Guin. O'Guin. O'Guin got by her defender and the charging Sharks goalie.  She was then able to shoot the ball into the bottom left-hand corner of the net for the first goal of the game.

One minute later the Lasers were granted a penalty kick. Caroline St. Croix went up to the spot and blasted the ball into the net to give the Lasers a 2-0 lead. This goal was St. Croix's first collegiate goal. 

In the 38th minute, Bobbi O'Guin passed the ball to a running Serena Speight. Speight worked around her defender and shot the ball, from outside the box, into the top left corner of the box, for the third goal of the half.  The Lasers led 3-0 at the half.

Lasell would add to their lead in the 60th minute when Priscilla Martinelli (Plymouth, MA) sent a through ball to Sarah Lynch (Warwick, RI). Lynch took a couple of dribbles and shot the ball into the net to make it 4-0 in favor of the Lasers. 

Nine minutes later, Camdyn LaMarre (Belgrade, MA) dribbled the ball down the right flank and cut her way in towards the box. In stride, she passed the ball to Alex Delaney (Hebron, CT) who shot the ball into the net to increase the lead to five. 

In the 80th minute, O'Guin dribbled down the left flank and worked her way into the box. Once inside the box, she took a couple of dribbles and passed the ball to Maria Henriquez. Henriquez, with her back to her defender, spun around her and shot the ball into the net. 

When the final whistle blew, the Lasers were on top 6-0.

Laser goalie Kyli Swan finished the game with one save for Lasell and Marita Nothacker had 14 saves for the Sharks.  

The Lasers are back in action on Wednesday when they host Anna Maria at 3 p.m. The Sharks are back in action on Sunday when they travel to Northfield, VT to take on Norwich University at 7 p.m.
