Five Lasers Notch Goals as Women’s Soccer Tops Anchorwomen

PROVIDENCE, RI- Five Lasell College women's soccer players notched goals en route to a 5-1 victory over Rhode Island College on Wednesday night. The non-conference matchup left Lasell at 12-4-1 at the conclusion of their 2011 regular season while Rhode Island lands at 2-15.

 

The tandem of Jill Greaney (Holyoke, MA) and Reegan Brackett (Scarborough, ME) teamed up first to get Lasell on the board at 10:25.  Meredith Hessler (Middletown, RI) and Jamie Osterberg (Monroe, CT) paired up for the second goal which Hessler knocked in at 24:30.  Two more marks were slipped past the Anchorwomen's goalkeeper, Abygayle Fisher, before halftime.  Courtney Callanan (Taunton, MA) and Sam Peck (Woodbury, CT) brought the Lasers to 4-0 before the break, with Mary Kate Dunphy (Wareham, MA) assisting on Peck's tally.

 

Upon returning to play in the second half, Rhode Island got their sole goal off the foot of Megan Saucier who took a pass from Lauren Maisano to stifle the Lasers' shutout.

 

Jessica Taylor (Standish, ME) retaliated for Lasell and tacked on the final goal of the game in the 69th minute.  Hessler assisted on Taylors' goal to bring the 5-1 game to a close.

 

All three of Lasell's goalkeepers saw time in the net.  Elizabeth Stickley (Mashpee, MA) started the game and played 32 minutes without seeing a shot on goal.  Amy DelloRusso (Plymouth, MA) played for 23 minutes and Leah Pappalardo (Whitman, MA) saw 34 minutes in the net and made one save.

 

The Lasers will gear up for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tournament which is slated to begin on Saturday, October 29th at 1:00 p.m.  Lasell will host St. Joseph's College of Maine in the quarter finals on Taylor Field.
