Lasers Blank Mustangs, 5-0

Lasers Blank Mustangs, 5-0

NEWTON, MA- Lasell College women's soccer team remains undefeated in the Greater Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) after a 5-0 win against neighboring Mount Ida College on Sunday afternoon. The win for the Lasers marks their sixth win a row, including a 5-0 sweep of conference play.

Lasell set the tone of the game from the onset and never let up, dictating the flow of the game throughout. The Lasers only allowed two shots by the Mustangs all day, while firing off forty-two of their own through the 90 minute contest.  All three of Lasell's goalkeepers, Elizabeth Stickley (Mashpee, MA), Amy DelloRusso (Plymouth, MA), and Leah Pappalardo (Whitman, MA) shared time in net in the shutout victory, with the win being awarded to Stickley as the starting net minder.

From the beginning, Lasell maintained control of the ball, getting off eighteen shots through the first half, and tallying one goal. The Lasers didn't let down in the second half either as they scored four goals on twenty four shots.

Lasell's offensive attack was led by Jamie Harris (Lynnfield, MA) who started the scoring attack late in the first half with an unassisted goal. In the second half, Harris assisted Jordynn Frollo (Uxbridge, MA) on a goal that bounced over the goal line after knocking off the right post. Harris ended the afternoon with thirteen shots on goal.

Five minutes after Frollo's score, Lasell's Kayla Lynch (Dover, NH) fired off a rebounded shot to give the Lasers the 3-0 lead.  The next goal came with less than three minutes left in the match and was scored by freshmen Kaley Kiss (Meriden, CT). Ashley Jenne (Derby, VT) would strike for her first collegiate goal in the closing moment in the match to give Lasell the 5-0 victory.

Mount Ida's first shot happened early in the match when Alison Koning (Carlisle, MA) took a shot on Stickley at 5:36. After that, Lasell did not allow another shot for Stickley to save until the fifty fifth minute of the match. Stickley had two saves on the afternoon and shared the shutout with DelloRusso and Pappalardo.

Lasell returns to league action on Tuesday September 27th with a home match against Emmanuel at 4:00 p.m. on Taylor Field.
