Somerville, MA – The Lasell College women's soccer team topped Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Suffolk University, 4-1, behind the remarkable efforts of freshman Bridget Lynch (Dover, NH) who recorded all four Laser goals in the contest.
Lynch helped Lasell get on top of Suffolk early with a goal just 5:04 into the contest, knocking in a loose ball during a scrum in front of the Ram's net. The lead would hold for nearly 60 minutes at which point Suffolk's Meghan McHale (Halifax, MA) knotted the score after drilling a free kick across the Lasers' goal line.
The level score would not last long as Lynch struck for three more consecutive goals over the next 25 minutes, to produce her first collegiate natural hat trick and keep Lasell undefeated at 4-0 in conference play.
Lynch converted on a feed from sophomore Jamie Osterberg (Monroe, CT) for the game-winner, at 69:22, and then added an insurance goal, at 77:41, with help from sophomore Jamie Harris (Lynnfield, MA). The assist for Harris marked her 50th career point as only a second year player and in just 25 contests. Harris is averaging two points per contest for her young career.
The final goal of the game came in the 85th minute when she collected a cross from Osterberg and fired off a quick shot in front of the Rams goal.
The Lasers held possession for most of the contest, out shooting the Rams 22-6 throughout the game. Suffolk goalie Melissa Brouilette (Shelton, CT) made 13 saves in a losing effort for the Rams who fall to 2-4 overall and 0-3 in conference play. Lasell's keeper Elizabeth Stickley (Mashpee, MA) was credited with five stops in the triumph as the Lasers improve to 4-2 and 4-0 in the GNAC.
The Lasers will return to non-conference play on Thursday, September 22nd when they will challenge Brandeis University to a makeup game from September 7th. The Judges are currently ranked 8th in the latest Division III New England Regional poll put out by the NSCAA. The Lasers and the Judges will match up beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Taylor Field.
