WBB: Lasers Drop Season-Opener in High Scoring Affair

Dudley, MA - The Lasell womens basketball team traveled Saturday to Nichols College for their first game of the 2024-25 season. 

 

Lasell who was picked to finish No. 4 in the preseason GNAC poll, opened up the season with a road match at Nichols College on Saturday. In this non-conference matchup, the scoring was the story as both teams executed their offensive game at a high efficiency. Lasell trailed by just one after the first quarter (18-17) but opened up the scoring before half putting up 27 to Nichols 16 to gain a 10-point halftime lead. In the second half, the scoring really opened up as in the third quarter both teams combined for 68 total points. The Bisons poured in 38 points compared to the Lasers 30 which pulled them to within 2 going into the fourth. The final quarter was tightly contested as both teams captured leads, exchanging blows going into the final minutes. However, a 12-5 run in the final 2 minutes of the game gave the Bisons the edge and the victory. Despite the loss, the Lasers hung 95 points and had 4 of 5 starters in double figures, with the starting lineup combining for 69 of the 95 Lasell points. Kiara Cerruti led the scoring for the Lasers on the day totaling 22 points and hitting three 3's. Laura Johson had a near double-double for the Lasers with 9 points and 13 rebounds. The other leading scorers for Lasell on the day were Juju Nealy (15), Shirle Major (12), and Blaize Mack (11).
