Chicopee, MA - The Lasell University Lasers Men's Volleyball team split their tri-match at Elms on Saturday, defeating Elms 3-0, and falling to SUNY New Paltz 3-1. The Lasers are now 7-8 on the season.

In the second match of the day, against SUNY New Paltz, setter Jesus Garcia, playing in his 103rd career match, eclipsed 3,000 career set assists, becoming just the second player in program history to do that, trailing only Andrew Glenn, who had 4,117 across 129 matches.

Match One - vs Elms

The Lasers took the first match of the day against Elms pretty easily, dismantling the Blazers 25-13, 25-9, 25-18. Freshman Aidan Norris led the team on offense, collecting 13 kills on 17 attempts. Brenden Joyce had eight kills and Jasper Schultz had six. Garcia had 30 set assists. Joyce would lead the team with nine digs, two more than Nathan Carter's seven.

Match Two - vs SUNY New Paltz

The Lasers took on SUNY New Paltz in their second match of the day, falling in four sets by a final score of 35-37, 25-17, 25-21, 25-20. The first set ended up being a marathon battle between the two team, at one point late in the set the two teams alternated points for 14 points. The Lasers saved six set points before scoring the final two points of the set to take it 37-35. But that set seemed to tire the Lasers out, as they would drop each of the following three sets.

Theo Zaharewicz (15 kills) and Jan Baranowski (11 kills) led the way for the Lasers, with Aidan Norris (7) and Jasper Schultz (6) behind them. Garcia had 45 set assists. Schultz led the team with nine digs, just ahead of Garcia (8) and Brenden Joyce (7). Carter Phillips had four blocks.

Up next - The Lasers will continue their season on March 5th when they host Emerson at 7pm.
