MVB: Lasers Finish Second at Springfield Morgan Classic

Springfield, MA - Over the weekend the Lasell Men's Volleyball team participated in trhe Springfield Mordan Classic with Springfield, Endicott, and Vassar. The Lasers defeated Endicott on Friday in straight sets, before falling to #7 ranked, and host, Springfield on Saturday in the championship in straight sets. The Lasers are now 4-4 on the season, with all four losses coming against ranked teams.

Match One vs Endicott

The Lasers swept the Gulls on Friday in straight sets by a score of 25-21, 25-17, 25-21. Only two Lasers had more than four kills, as Jordan Shinaut led with 11, and Brenden Joyce was right behind him with nine. A majority of those were set up by the usual, Jesus Garcia, as he had 26 set assists, putting him over the 2,800 mark for his career. He is looking to become just the third Lasell player in school history to break the 3,000 mark. Joyce also led the team with 10 digs. Shinaut was also a leader on defense, as he had six total blocks, right ahead of Carter Phillips, who had five.

Match Two vs Springfield

The Lasers took on host, and the seventh ranked team in the country, Springfield on Saturday in the tournament championship. The Lasers were swept 25-21, 25-17, 25-22. Shinaut again led the team with nine kills. Theo Zaharewicz was second on the team with six. Garcia had 22 set assists, and led the team with six digs.

Both Jordan Shinaut and Jesus Garcia were named to the All-Tournament team.

Up next - The Lasers will host Eastern Nazarene for a 5pm start on Tuesday.
