MVB: Lasers Split Conference Tri-Match

Nashua, NH - The Lasell Lasers Men's Volleyball team split a conference tri-match on Saturday, falling to Rivier in four sets before defeating Dean in three. The Lasers are now 12-12 on the season, and 6-3 in conference play.

Game One vs Rivier (25-23, 23-25, 20-25, 22-25)

The two teams played four close sets, beginning with a 25-23 first set win for the Lasers. The two teams traded points throughout the set, but with the teams tied at 22, the Lasers scored three of the next four points to win the set on a Theo Zaharewicz kill. The second set was the same story, as neither team was able to run away. This time the Raiders won a close set. In the pivotable third set, the Lasers got out to the early lead, but a 10-1 run from the Raiders gave them control, and they ultimately took the set 25-20. The fourth set saw the Raiders grab the early lead, and despite the Lasers tying things at 16, they were never able to take a lead, as the Raiders took the set and the match.

The Lasers were led by Theo Zaharewicz' 16 kills on 28 attempts and six digs. Behind him was Brenden Joyce with 12 kills and 8 digs. Joyce also had five total blocks. Libero Alex Weinhaus led the team with nine digs. As a team, the Lasers had 46 kills, and Jesus Garcia recorded a set assist on all but one of them with 45 set assists in the match. 

Game Two vs Dean (25-4, 25-8, 25-13)

This match was all Lasers from the start, as the Lasers opened set one on an 11-0 run. They then ended it on a 9-1 run. The set was never in doubt, as the Lasers won the set 25-4. Set two was a similar story, as the Lasers scored points in bunches, scoring at least three straight points on five occasions, leading them to a 25-8 set win. While the third set began close, the Lasers went on a 12-1 run to end the set and the match with a 25-13 set win.

The Lasers got eight kills from Brenden Joyce, doing so on 11 attempts. Jesus Garcia led the team with 10 digs, while Zak Burkett had 18 set assists for the Lasers. Carter Phillips had four totals blocks.

Up Next - The Lasers will return to action on Tuesday, March 28th when they travel to Emerson for a 6pm start.
