MVB: Balanced Attack Leads Lasers to Victory

Newton, MA - The Lasell Men's Volleyball team defeated the Emerson Lions in straight sets on Tuesday night, winning 25-19, 25-15, 25-20. The win improves the Lasers record to 10-7 on the season, while the Lions are now 3-9.

The match began as a back and forth affair, with things all knotted up at 10 in the first set. The Lasers then scored the next three points to grab a 13-10 lead. After the two teams traded the next seven points, the Laser took control with a 5-0 run that included kills from Jan Baranowski and Jordan Shinaut. The teams would close th set out by trading points the rest of the way, giving the Lasers the set 25-19, with the final point coming on another Shinaut kill.

The second set was similar to the first in that it was a close battle at the start. The Lions led 7-6 when the Lasers went on a 4-0 run to grab a lead they would not surrender. The Lasers then started to bunch their points together, ending the set on a 13-4 run to take it 25-15.

The third set was once again close at the start with the two teams tied at nine. But an 8-1 run from the Lasers that featured four kills from Carter Phillips gave Lasell the commanding 17-10 lead, and allowed them to coast to a 25-20 set win, and a 3-0 match victory.

The Lasers were led by the trio of Dexter Thomas, Carter Phillips, and Jordan Shinaut, who each had eight kills. Jesus Garcia led the way with 24 set assists, while Jasper Schultz led the team with eight digs. Schultz also led the team with four totals blocks.

Up Next - The Lasers will have the next 10 days off before heading out to California for their Spring Break game, beginning with Nazareth. That match will start at 6pm EST.
