MVB: Lasers Cruise by SUNY Poly

Newton, MA - The Lasell Lasers defeated the SUNY Poly Wildcats by a final score of 25-19, 25-8, 25-22 on Saturday. The win improves the Lasers record to 8-5 on the season, while the Wildcats are now 3-8.

Lasell got out to the early 9-2 lead in the first set, but the Wildcats responded with an 8-3 run of their own to make it 12-10 Lasers. AFter the two teams traded the next six points, the Lasers scored four straight to take control of the set, ultimately winning it 25-19.

Set two was all Lasers, as they scored the first eight points behind the serving of Jesus Garcia. The Wildcats scored multiple points in a row only once in the set, while the Lasers scored in bunches, taking the set 25-8 on a David Massa ace.

The third set was the closest of the match, and the Wildcats led 12-10. But a 7-1 run from the Lasers steadied the ship, and the teams would trade points the rest of the way. The Lasers would take the set on a Jordan Shinaut kill, giving them the set 25-22, and the match 3-0.

The Lasers were led by Jordan Shinaut's 17 kills on 22 attempts, giving him an attacking percentage of .727. David Massa was behind him with nine kills. Jesus Garcia was the middle man, as he collected 26 set assists. Defensively, the Lasers had 14 blocks, led by Dexter Thomas' four. Alex Weinhaus led the team with five digs.
