MVB: Lasers Fall on Road to Nichols in Four Sets

Dudley, MA - The Lasell Lasers fell to 4-4 on the season after losing to the Nichols Bison by a final score of 25-22, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22 on Thursday night. The Bison are now 7-3.

Nichols held an early 5-4 lead in the first set, but the Lasers would go on a 5-0 that included two aces by Jordan Shinaut. The teams would go back and forth for a majority of the rest of the set. With the set tied at 19, an attacking error from Theo Zaharewicz gave the Bison the edge, but the Lasers responded with a kill from Shinaut to draw even. Ultimately though, the Bison would score five of the next seven points to take set one 25-22.

Just like the first set, the Bison got out to an early 5-4 lead in the second. Three straight points from the Lasers would put them ahead though. The teams would once again go back and forth throughout the set, with the Lasers being the ones to pull out ahead this time. Trailing 16-14, the Lasers went on a 5-0 run that featured kills from Tucker Merritt, Jordan Shinaut, and Brenden Joyce. The other two points came via aces by Joyce. Nichols would get to within one, but Joyce would end the set with a kill, giving the Lasers the set by a 25-23 score.

For the third straight set, the Bison led 5-4 early on. After scoring the next two points, the Bison would hold their lead of at least three points for the rest of the set, winning it 25-20.

Set four saw Nichols race out to an 8-4 lead, but three straight points from the Lasers brought them back into it. After the Bison built their lead back up to four at 16-12, the Lasers used another 3-0 run to get within one. The teams would go back and forth the rest of the way, but the Bison ultimately came out on top in the set 25-22, giving them the 3-1 victory.

The Lasers were led by Jordan Shinaut's 18 kills on 32 attempts. Behind him was Brenden Joyce, who had 13 kills on 35 attempts, while also leading the team in digs with six, tied with Shinaut. Jesus Garcia led the team with 33 assists. Shinaut also led the team with two solo blocks.

Up Next - The Lasers get some much needed rest off before travelling to take on Endicott on Wednesday, February 15th. That match will start at 7pm.
