MVB: Lasers Fall in Ranked Battle With #3 Springfield

Springfield, MA - In a battle between two ranked teams, #14 Lasell fell to #3 Springfield on Tuesday afternoon by a final score of 25-14, 25-19, 25-22. The loss drops the Lasers to 4-3 on the season, while Springfield is now 7-1.

Springfield got out to a quick 5-1 lead in the first set, and never looked back from their. For every point the Lasers scored, the Pride would have an answer of two points, never letting the Lasers stage a comeback. The Pride would end the set on an 8-2 run to take set one 25-14.

Lasell started the second set hot, getting out to a 3-1 lead. But the Pride were not held down for long, as they went on to score nine of the next 10 points. They would go up by as many as seven, but the Lasers did not back down. Lasell went on a 7-2 run to get the score to 16-14. But that would be as close as they got, as Springfield used 5-1 run to take a controlling lead back, and take the set 25-19.

Lasell once again got out to the early set lead in the third, winning five of the first six points. After the Pride scored the next three points, the Lasers responded with four straight points of their own. The teams traded points back and forth until the Pride scored three straight to get within one at 13-12. But the Lasers came right back with three points of their own to go back up 16-12. The Pride would eventually tie things up at 20, and go on to score five of the next seven points to take the set 25-22, giving them the match victory.

Brenden Joyce led the Lasers offensively with 11 kills, and defensively with 10 digs, while Jesus Garcia recorded 26 assists. Also having a good day attacking wise was Jan Baranowski. A big difference maker in this match proved to be serving, as the Pride held a 14-2 advantage in service aces.
