Men's Volleyball: Joyce and Shinaut garner GNAC weekly awards

WINTHROP, Mass. - After defeating No. 1-ranked Springfield, 3-1, on Tuesday evening in the Athletic Center, the Lasell University men's volleyball team received two Great Northeast Athletic Conference weekly awards Monday, as junior Brenden Joyce and freshman Jordan Shinaut were named Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.

Shinaut took home his third consecutive Rookie of the Week honor. Joyce earned his first collegiate weekly award from the conference office.

During the victory over the Pride, Shinaut tallied a match-leading 15 kills, to go along with six digs. Joyce compiled 14 kills and seven digs, while tying a career-high five total blocks and setting a personal record with two solo blocks. The men's volleyball team earned its first win in program history over Springfield and it was also the first time that the squad earned a victory over the No. 1-ranked team in the nation.

Joyce finished with a team-high 12 digs in a 3-0 setback to No. 12 Wentworth Thursday in Boston. During the same match, Shinaut recorded seven kills, three service aces, two digs and two block assists.

Lasell is 11-6 overall and 5-1 in the GNAC this season. The Lasers won nine consecutive matches from Feb. 3 - March 1, winning 27-of-32 sets during that stretch.

The Lasers will compete against GNAC-rival Dean Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Franklin, Massachusetts.
