Men's Volleyball: Baranowski and Shinaut garner GNAC weekly awards

WINTHROP, Mass. - After defeating Elms, 3-0, and Elizabethtown, 3-1, on Saturday in Chicopee, Massachusetts, the Lasell University men's volleyball team earned two Great Northeast Athletic Conference awards Monday, as junior Jan Baranowski and freshman Jordan Shinaut were named Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.

For the second consecutive week, Shinaut earned the GNAC's Rookie of the Week honor. Baranowski received his first Offensive Player of the Week nod, while he earned the Rookie of the Week accomplishment on March 9, 2020. The Lasers (10-5, 5-0 GNAC) went 8-0 in February and have won 10-of-11 matches, dating back to Jan. 22.

Shinaut compiled a career-high 17 kills in the win over the Blazers Saturday. During the four-set victory over the Blue Jays, the Peoria, Arizona, native posted a match-leading 16 kills, to go along with career-highs of 10 digs, seven total blocks and six block assists.

Baranowski was efficient at the net during both matches. Against Elms, he tallied 11 kills, three block assists and a .733 kill percentage. The Wheeling, Illinois, native followed up with 11 kills and .667 kill percentage, to go along with two block assists, against Elizabethtown. The 11 kills in a single match are the most in Baranowski's collegiate career and the three block assists are a season-high.

The Lasers will compete against No. 1-ranked Springfield Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Athletic Center.
