Men's Volleyball: Garcia and Shinaut garner GNAC weekly honors

WINTHROP, Mass. - After going, 4-0, this last week, the Lasell University men's volleyball team earned two Great Northeast Athletic Conference awards Monday, as junior setter Jesus Garcia and freshman opposite Jordan Shinaut were named Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.

The Lasers (8-5, 4-0 GNAC) have won six straight matches and eight of their last nine, including defeating No. 5 Wentworth, 3-1, on Saturday in the Athletic Center. In addition to the victory over the Leopards, Lasell defeated Emerson, 3-0, Tuesday, Regis, 3-1, Thursday and Elms, 3-0, Saturday.

During the four victories, Garcia recorded 116 assists, 24 digs, 10 kills and seven total blocks. The Honolulu, Hawaii, native earned a GNAC weekly honor for the second straight week, as he was named Defensive Player of the Week on Feb. 14. Garcia also took home the conference's Rookie of the Week award twice in 2020.

Shinaut competed in three of the four matches, compiling 40 kills and six total blocks. He recorded double-digit kill totals during all three matches.

During the victory over the Leopards, Garcia finished with a team-high 34 assists, to go along with eight digs and five kills. Shinaut tallied a team-high 14 kills. Against Emerson, Garcia registered a team-high 21 assists.

During the triumph over visiting Regis, Garcia recorded match-highs of 32 assists and 10 digs. Shinaut posted a match-leading 14 kills. Garcia led all players with 29 assists, to go along with five block assists and five digs against Elms. Shinaut connected on a match-best 12 kills.
