Men's Volleyball: Garcia and Zaharewicz earn GNAC weekly awards

WINTHROP, Mass. - After defeating Endicott, 3-1, Thursday evening in the Athletic Center, junior setter Jesus Garcia and freshman outside hitter Theo Zaharewicz of the Lasell University men's volleyball team were named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, Monday afternoon.

Garcia, who was named to the GNAC All-Conference second team in 2020, earned his third career weekly honor from the conference office. He was named Rookie of the Week twice during the 2020 season. The weekly award was the first of Zaharewicz's career.

Garcia compiled a team-high 20 assists and match-leading 11 digs in the triumph over the Gulls, while tallying two kills and one block assist. Zaharewicz recorded five kills and one solo block, to go along with a .364 kill percentage.

Garcia has tallied 20 or more assists in 8-of-9 matches this season and has reached double figures in digs three times. The Honolulu, Hawaii, native finished with a season-high 44 assists and 10 digs against St. Joseph's College of Long Island on Jan. 15. 

Zaharewicz has recorded nine or more kills three times, eight or more digs twice and three or more blocks on two occasions in 2022. During the match against St. Joseph's, the Bethany, Connecticut, native tallied career-highs of 15 kills and 11 digs.

The Lasers will compete at Emerson Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Boston.
