MVB: Lasers fall to No. 1 Springfield College; DeSouza and Waitekus post five kills each

NEWTON, Mass. – Juniors Dillon DeSouza (Enfield, Conn.) and Aaron Waitekus (Norwood, Mass.) both finished with five kills in the 3-0 loss to No. 1 Springfield College on Wednesday night in the Lasell Athletic Center.

The Lasers (10-12) drop their second match in a row while Springfield wins their sixth in row to improve to 19-2.

Senior Scott Sterenberg (Oceanside, N.Y.) added nine kills while freshman Jesus Garcia (Honolulu, Hawaii) finished with a team-high 23 assists.

The Pride jumped out to a 7-3 lead early in the first set with kills from Liam York (Kailua, Hawaii) and Brennan Brandow (Manorville, N.Y.). The Lasers struggled to sideout with constant service pressure from Springfield and dropped the first set 25-16.

In the second set, the Lasers kept it close until an eight-point run from the Pride with Matt Lilley (Stony Brook, N.Y.) behind the service line. The home team lost the second and third sets, 25-15 and 25-20.

The Lasers will play the second match of their back-to-back at Regis College tomorrow, March 12 at 7 p.m. The Pride will play next on Thursday, March 26 against Baruch at 6 p.m.
