BOSTON, Mass. – The Lasell University men's volleyball team swept conference opponent in three straight sets Friday night in the Bobbi Brown & Steven Plofker Gym against the Emerson Lions.

With the Lasers win, they improve to 3-2 in conference and 10-10 overall on the season. The Lions drop to 0-3 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference and 5-7 overall.

Freshman Jan Baranowski (Wheeling, Ill.) smashed 10 kills with no errors, on 14 attempts, totaling a .714 hitting percentage. Freshman Brenden Joyce (Randolph, Mass.) led the team with 11 kills on a .529 attacking efficiency. Junior Aaron Waitekus (Norwood, Mass.) also chipped in with six kills on the night. Senior Scott Sterenberg (Oceanside, N.Y.) dominated from the service line with six total aces in the match.

The Lasers started the first set with a consistent attack by hitting .250% as a team in the set. Sterenberg pushed the Lasers to an early lead with three straight serves to earn a 6-2 advantage. The Lasers energy grew throughout the set after a loud kill from Waitekus to double the lead of the Lions at 18-9. Sterenberg continued his strong serving with three straight aces to bring the Lasers to game point, 24-10. Waitekus capped off the set with a kill to take the first set 25-12.

In the second set, back to back kills form Joyce gave the visitors a 3-1 lead to spark a run. The Lasers went on a four-point and five-point run in the middle of the second set with freshmen Charles Lavoie (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Jesus Garcia (Honolulu, Hawaii) behind the service line. The Lasers scored six out of the last seven points of the set to take a 25-11 set two win.

A six-point spurt from the Lasers to begin the third set forced the Lions to take a timeout early on. Constant service pressure from the Lasers continued to keep the Lions out of system to create a 21-7 lead for Lasell. The Lasers would go on to score the next four to close out the match and sweep conference opponent, Emerson.
