MVB: Lasell sweeps Pine Manor in home opener

NEWTON, Mass. – The Lasell College men's volleyball team used a team effort Tuesday evening to defeat Pine Manor College, 3-0, in the home opener at the Lasell Athletic Center.

The home team won by set scores of 25-8, 25-12 and 25-7 as the Lasers improve to 7-10 overall. Pine Manor drops to 2-10 on the season.

Sophomores Dillon DeSouza (Enfield, Conn.) and Cobi Moore (Hampstead, N.H.) led the Lasers with seven kills apiece, and classmate Aaron Waitekus (Norwood, Mass.) and freshman Devon Francis (Springfield, Mass.) added six kills each. Sophomore Greg Monteiro (New Bedford, Mass.) chipped in with two kills and four service aces and senior Andy Henriquez (Lawrence, Mass.) was good for three kills and 25 set assists.

Henriquez also led the squad with nine digs and Francis made eight digs and two blocks.

JohnieJoel Jackson led the Gators with five kills and Yaya Kagami finished with five assists. Dawson Farmer recorded a match-high 11 digs.

   

Prior to the match, Lasell recognized two Lasers (above) for their recent milestones as Henriquez became the third player in program history to record 2,000 assists and senior Jordan Aprea (Newington, Conn.) became the first to record 1,000 digs.

Lasell returns to Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on Thursday, March 7, with a road match at Colby-Sawyer College (7 p.m.) Pine Manor is idle until Saturday, March 23, when the Gators travel to Pratt Community College in Pratt, Kansas.
