MVB: Lasell sweeps match from Newbury

BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Lasell College men's volleyball team used a team effort Friday night to sweep a non-conference match from Newbury College, 3-0, at the Pappas Gymnasium at Hellenic College.

The Lasers won by set scores of 25-16, 25-9 and 25-9, posting a team attack percentage of .394 (33-7-66). Lasell improves to 5-6 overall, while Newbury drops to 3-9.

All six Laser starters recorded between seven and four kills in the victory. Junior Scott Sterenberg (Oceanside, N.Y.) led the way with seven kills (7-1-20, .300), while sophomores Dillon DeSouza (Enfield, Conn.), Conor Leary-Watson (Bethany, Conn.) and Greg Monteiro (New Bedford, Mass.) made five kills apiece; DeSouza posted a .714 attack percentage (5-0-7) with a team-high five service aces and Leary-Watson hit at a .444 clip (5-1-9). Sophomore Aaron Waitekus (Norwood, Mass.) and Senior Nate Gallo (North Providence, R.I.) chipped in with four kills apiece, with Gallo distributing the ball to the tune of 25 set assists.

Sophomore Cobi Moore (Hampstead, N.H.) led the backcourt contingent with eight digs.

Sophomore Rory Dobbins (Warwich, R.I.) led the home team with seven kills and classmate Geral Rivera-Miranda (Everett, Mass.) made seven digs.

The Lasers returns to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action in their next match on Thursday, February 28, at Rivier University (7 p.m.)
