Men's Volleyball Sweeps Final GNAC Weekly Awards

NEWTON, Mass. (4/10/17) -- Thanks to concluding the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) regular season with four straight victories this past week and earning the No. 2 seed in postseason play, the Lasell College men's volleyball team earned its third sweep of the league's weekly honors, it was announced on Monday afternoon.

Senior Tristan Davis (Rochester, N.Y.) and sophomore Jordan Aprea (Newington, Conn.) were respectively named the league's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for the fifth time this season, while Janci Soto (Lawrence, Mass.) earned his third Rookie of the Week nod.

Davis totaled 53 kills and averaged 3.79 per set in the Lasers' latest four matches against Mount Ida, Rivier, Johnson & Wales, and Emmanuel, including 19 in Saturday's four-set win over JWU. He continued to add to his school-record number of service aces with 14 on the week, six of which came against Rivier. In total, Davis contributed 70.5 points as he also posted four total blocks.

Aprea helped anchor the Lasers on the defensive end of the floor as libero, posting 46 digs and 3.29 per set. He hit the floor for 18 digs at Rivier, just one shy of his season-high, set twice.

Soto posted 12 kills, four service aces and 12 total blocks as the Lasers dropped just two sets over the week. He totaled five kills against both Rivier and Emmanuel and nine of his 23 total points in the latter contest.

The Lasers open the GNAC postseason on Thursday, April 13 when they host a semifinal contest in the Athletic Center against the winner of an opening-round match between No. 6 Emmanuel and No. 3 Rivier.
