Men's Volleyball Stages Fourth Set Comeback; Knocks Off Rivier 3-1

NASHUA, N.H. (4/6/17) –  Lasell stays at #2 in the GNAC at 11-1 and moves to 26-5 overall, while the Raiders fall to 8-4 in the conference and 17-12 this season.

Tristan Davis (Rochester, N.Y.) was a force offensively with 15 kills and six service aces, adding 21 of 54 team points in the outing. Though Davis was the lone Laser to swung into double-digit kills, fellow senior Jeffrey Vautrin (Chicopee, Mass.) contributed with eight blasts and a block solo. Patrick MacDonald (Floral Park, N.Y.) followed with six kills and 11 digs, behind libero Jordan Aprea (Newington, Conn.) who registered a game-high 18 digs.

Setter Andy Henriquez (Lawrence, Mass.) served up 36 assists with six digs and a block assist.

The Rivier offense was led by Ian Wolski (Wesetfield, Mass.) and junior Grant Andler (Chicago, Ill.) who each totaled eight kills while junior Matt Heckler (Simi Valley, Calif.) added seven kills. Tyler Blank (Rochester, N.Y.) dished out 30 assists and junior libero Garrett Bucklin (Jamestown, R.I.) collected 15 digs along the back line. Heckler and freshman John Equitani (Coventry, R.I.) were solid along the net as they both recorded two block solos in the loss.

The Lasers held a 2-1 match advantage on opening set scores of 25-12, 21-25, 25-16, and 25-23. Down 18-13 in the fourth, the Lasers strung together six points to the Raiders' one, and tied the game 19-19 on an attack error by Francis Kokoros. A kill from Vautrin gave the Lasers' a 21-20 lead, but the hosts regained the advantage, 23-22 on a Lasell miscue. On its match point, Rivier cracked under pressure with a final error, followed by back-to-back kills from Davis and MacDonald for the 25-23 final.

Lasell closes out the regular season on Saturday, April 8 when it travels to Johnson and Wales for a GNAC tri-match with Emmanuel College. First serve against the Wildcats is set for 10:00 a.m.
