Vautrin Smashes 1,000th Career Kill in GNAC Tri Match

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (4/1/17) – The No. 8 men's volleyball team saw its conference win streak snap on Saturday afternoon, as No. 10 Wentworth Institute of Technology downed the Lasers 3-1 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match inside The Nest. The Lasers earned a 3-0 sweep over Albertus in the latter match, and move to 24-5 overall and 9-1 in conference play.

Senior Jeffrey Vautrin (Chicopee, Mass.) swung into his 1,000th career kill alongside 15 kills in the first match against Wentworth. Vautrin has contributed with 10 or more kills in 15 of 24 matches played, and now has 1,004 kills throughout his four seasons at Lasell.

Vautrin additionally led the defense for the Lasers against WIT, recording 12 digs and two block assists, while sophomore libero Jordan Aprea (Newington, Conn.) registered 10 digs.

Patrick MacDonald (Floral Park, N.Y.) packed a heavy stat line as well, hitting .355 with 15 kills, seven digs, and two blocks. Tristan Davis (Rochester, N.Y.) rounded out the double-digit kills trio with 11 and two service aces.

Each set was determined by no more than five points, as Wentworth earned a 25-20 victory in the first. Lasell came back in the second set, hitting .455 as a team for the 25-23 victory, but that's as far as they would get, as WIT closed out on 25-23 and 25-20 victories.

In the final match of the afternoon, the Lasers finished Albertus in just under an hour, and used a team-high seven kills from Scott Sterenberg (Oceanside, N.Y.), Janci Soto (Lawrence, Mass.), and Davis to lead the charge. Davis additionally jumped up for three block solos and two block assists, tallying 16 points overall.

The Lasers will honor the 2017 graduating seniors in their next contest, a GNAC rivalry match against the Mustangs of Mount Ida College on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m.
