Men's Volleyball Sweeps GNAC Weekly Awards Again

NEWTON, Mass. (3/13/17) -- After finishing a two-match week with a Friday night win over No. 9 Marymount, the Lasell College men's volleyball team swept the Great Northeast Athletic Conference's (GNAC) weekly awards for the second time this season, it was announced Monday.

Senior Tristan Davis (Rochester, N.Y.) and sophomore Jordan Aprea (Newington, Conn.) were respectively named the league's Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season, while Janci Soto (Lawrence, Mass.) grabbed his second Rookie of the Week nod.

Davis averaged 3.67 kills per set on the week, pacing the Lasers' offense with a career-high 27 kills in the thrilling five-set victory against the Saints. Davis committed just four errors, recorded two service aces and downed Lasell's final kill in the deciding set of that contest. The veteran outside hitter/middle blocker also chipped in with six kills in last Tuesday's 3-1 setback to No. 1 Springfield. Davis leads the conference with 212 kills on the season and second with a .325 hitting percentage.

Aprea totaled 17 digs during Lasell's two matches for a week-long average of 1.89 per set. He hit the floor for nine of the team's 34 digs against Marymount to go along with an assist. For the season, Aprea ranks second in the GNAC with 179 total digs and 2.52 per set.

The only league's only player averaging more than one block per set on the season, Soto recorded 12 kills and eight blocks this week for the Lasers. The match against Marymount was Soto's most effective hitting night of the season as he recorded seven kills on ten attempts. Additionally, he posted five kills, an assist and a dig against the nation's top team.

Lasell returns to action for a GNAC contest across town at Mount Ida College on Tuesday, March 21 at 6:00 p.m. The Lasers are 17-4 on the season and ranked 12th in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Top 15 poll.
