Men's Volleyball Splits with No. 1 Springfield, Wells

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (2/18/17) – The No. 12 Lasell men's volleyball team played to a 1-1 split against Wells College and No. 1 Springfield College on Saturday evening inside Blake Arena. The Lasers drop just their second contest in 18 games, and shift to 16-2 overall.

By set scores of 25-12, 25-12, and 25-13, the Lasers didn't hit below .450 to take the Express in a straight sweep. Lasell saw 21 of its 37 kills come from the senior class, as Tristan Davis (Rochester, N.Y.) led the charge with eight. Each senior swung into a service ace apiece, while Patrick MacDonald (Floral Park, N.Y.) and Jeff Vautrin (Chicopee, Mass.)  registered seven and six kills, respectively. Vautrin added eight kills in a strong defensive effort, joining sophomore Jordan Aprea (Newington, Conn.).

Wells had two six-kill showings from Caden O'Loughlin and Brannon Perdicho, while Scott Litvin recorded six digs in the effort.

The Lasers dropped their first game in straight sets to the 9-time national champions and No. 1 Pride of Springfield, 25-13, 25-14, and 25-18. The Pride hit .500, .727, and .407 to win their 13th straight game.

GNAC rookie of the week Janci Soto (Lawrence, Mass.) paced Lasell's offense on eight kills of 13 attempts, hitting .462 in the effort. Davis joined Saunoa Afoa (Las Vegas, Nev.) in a six-point showing, as Afoa jumped up for a pair of block solos.

Two members of the Pride reached double-digits in kills in Luis Vega and Ricardo Padilla Ayala, who swung into 11 and 10, correspondingly. The team combined for 11 blocks to Lasell's two, three of which came from Kyle Jasuta.

Lasell meets MIT for the second time this season on Thursday, February 23, this time in Boston, Mass. for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference affair.
