Men's Volleyball Sweeps No. 10 Stevenson in 3-1 Weekend Trip

MAHWAH, New Jersey (2/3/17) – The Lasell men's volleyball team highlighted a 3-1 weekend trip with a straight sweep over No. 10 Stevenson at Ramapo College. The Lasers defeated the College of Staten Island 3-0 on Friday, before defeating the Mustangs and Baruch on Saturday. Lasell suffered its first loss of the season in its final match of the outing, dropping a 3-1 decision to the host Roadrunners to shift to 9-1 overall.

By set scores of 25-22, 25-23, and 25-22, the Lasers defeated the ranked Mustangs behind ten kills each from Tristan Davis (Rochester, N.Y.) and Jeffrey Vautrin (Chicopee, Mass.). Andy Henriquez (Lawrence, Mass.) dished out 31 assists, while defensively Jordan Aprea (Newington, Conn.) picked up ten digs in the win and Janci Soto (Lawrence, Mass.) collected six blocks.  For Stevenson, Michael Fehrs led with ten kills and the team combined for 28 on 86 attempts with 25 errors hitting .035.  Derek Tangorra collected nine digs and Kyle Johnson dished out 22 assists in the loss.

The Lasers secured the middle match against Baruch, 25-19, 25-17, and 25-15 as Vautrin again collected ten kills for Lasell.  Lasell hit 36-78 with ten errors hitting .333 while Henriquez dished out another 31 assists. Henriquez picked up four digs while Patrick MacDonald (Floral Park, N.Y.) and Aprea collected four digs each in the win.  Nicholas Godino led Baruch with eight kills and Stephen Roach collected six as the Bearcats hit .160 with 28 kills on 75 attempts with 16 errors.  Brendan Murphy dished out 15 assists and Aaron Kim added nine, while the defense was led by Kryiakos  Semertzidis with seven digs.

In their first deficit of the season, the Lasers faulted to Ramapo by set scores of 22-25, 19-25, 25-18, and 15-25. Vautrin followed suit and led Lasell as he collected 16 kills in the loss while Davis picked up 13 of his own.  Henriquez collected a weekend-best 36 assists and Aprea led the defense with 11 digs. Close collected eight kills and Jordan Elam and Connor Brandow each added seven.  Ramapo hit a combined 47-110 with 25 errors hitting .200 in the win.  Mikhael Erushalimski dished out 42 assists, Brandow put away four service aces, and Terrance Cando led the defense with 11 digs.  Justin Feigeles picked up nine digs of his own on the day. 

The Lasers welcome Johnson and Wales University on Wednesday, February 8 for their first home game and conference test of the season. First serve is slated for 7:00 p.m.
